This blog has been writing itself in my head for a long, long time. We are a family of 4 that loves to travel. The only thing is, my husband is in a wheelchair as a result of a complete spinal cord injury (motorcycle accident many years ago). We have always shared a love of travel and although having twins a few years ago has slowed us down a little, we have been on some amazing trips over the years. I wanted to share our experiences with others as I know how difficult it is when you are travelling in a wheelchair to find places that have all of the amenities you need in order to be comfortable.
I know that everyone has different needs, so when you read my posts, you should know that my husband is a T3 complete paraplegic with full use of his arms and body above the nipple line. This means there may be certain things he can do or places he can go in his manual wheelchair that would not work for someone who uses an electric wheelchair or who does not have any use of their upper body.
I will do my best to post pictures that demonstrate accessibility or accessibility issues in the various places we have been. If you have any questions about any of the places we have travelled, we would be happy to try to help. We know how frustrating it can be trying to get your questions answered by someone who has never seen the room and has no idea what a shower bench is!
Lastly, if you have any comments about great places you have been, please share them! We are always thinking about and talking about where we want to go next and would be happy to hear about others’ experiences.
